Special guest at Skins

Streatham Redskins had a special guest at training this week as a former net minder dropped by Brixton ice rink on Tuesday night.

Conor Sheehan donned the pads for the first time in a number of years. The former Streatham and Invicta goalie last iced competitively in 2009 for Invicta Mustangs however his senior career also included a couple of seasons with the Redskins and also a spell with the Invicta Dynamos.

“Stefan Nubert was ill so we invited Conor out” said Redskins GM Barry Spours.

“I didn’t think he did too badly considering the time he has had away. He has been skating as an outfield player in my Streatham Nightwolves sessions but he is definitely a better goalie than a player despite what he may believe”

Still only 22, Sheehan grew up skating at Streatham before a brief spell at Guildford as a junior. He made his senior debut in 2006/07 season for the Redskins.

“It felt good to be out there” said Sheehan, who wont be signing for the Redskins this season as he already has plans to work abroad.

“When I felt the puck in my catcher it was like I had never been away, although my groin is very sore now”

Streatham have two road games this weekend as the travel to Bracknell on Saturday and then Milton Keynes on Sunday.
