Fresh from winning the 2011/12 ENL Play-Offs with Chelmsford Chieftains, the 22 year old has agreed to head to the Capital and join a Redskins side already boosted by a new face in Wightlink’s Dominic Hopkins.
Last season was Klima’s first in the UK and followed a junior career in his home city of Liberec with Bili Tygri Liberec, and a successful season with senior side NED Hockey Nymburk in Czech Division 3.
During his time with the Chieftains Klima scored 39 goals and 51 assists in his 34 appearances for the Essex side, lifting not only the Play-Off Championship but also the Essex Cup after a tussle with bitter rivals Romford Raiders.
Klima notched a number of goals against the Redskins himself last season in Chieftains colours but is hoping to fire some goals whilst wearing the famous Streatham jersey this time round.
“I am already looking forward to next season” said the 6’ 0” forward, who is currently back in his native Czech Republic for the summer.
“I had a good chat with Barry (Spours) and everything sounds like it will be a good season in Brixton next year. The team will be stronger and everything was sorted very quickly, so it all looks positive and I am very happy to come back to the UK for the next season as I settled there straight away”
Streatham have announced four players to the roster prior to Klima joining in the shape of the aforementioned Hopkins and the returning Will Sanderson and Adam Mahoney.
“I thought it was important that we secured a quality import early on” explained Redskins Coach Barry Spours.
“Obviously there are teams that will fly guys in fresh to the league and there are also some good options already in the UK, but it can be a risk either way if the guy is not familiar”
“We used a number of overseas trained guys last year and we need some consistency. Jakub was part of a winning team last year in Chelmsford and he may find things a little tougher with us, but when I heard he was available, had a chat with him and told him our plans, he was keen to sign up so we are obviously very pleased”
“He offers us more speed up front, he has good hands and he put up good numbers last season, which is an area we struggled with last year”
Streatham Redskins are likely to announce another addition to the roster prior to the much anticipated End of Season awards night this coming Saturday so keep checking the Official website to get all the Streatham news first.
